Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder/Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions Program

Hollyburn’s FASD/CDBC Program is a free, specialized support service for families with children diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and Complex Developmental Behavioural Conditions (CDBC).  These children often experience challenges in learning and processing information which makes it difficult for them to develop friendships, be successful in school, or understand and follow through with expectations of their parents and other family members.

This remote service offers intensive outreach and education programs and provides counselling, information, and skill development to help parents understand and develop effective behavioural and communication strategies with their children through each developmental phase.

Our FASD/CDBC Specialist often plays a key role in coordinating other health professionals that are often involved in these children’s lives and can liaise with school and other adults to ensure a consistent and successful approach to interventions. Where a diagnosis is only suspected, the FASD/CDBC Specialist can support the family to access mental health resources and learn more about getting an accurate assessment.

Families can self-refer for this free service, or referrals can be made by other professionals on the family’s behalf, with their consent. Education workshops are also available to school, health, child care, and community groups to help increase awareness of, and support for, children with FASD and CDBC designations.
